At our Summer Fair 2017, people from Halsford Park School’s community (pupils, former pupils, teachers, parents, carers, grandparents) all joined together to paint squares of the painting “Sea Holly and Sky Larks” by the Cornish artist, John Dyer.
The purpose of the project was to show how:
“We can create something BEAUTIFUL and INSPIRING, when we all join together and contribute something small!”
Children and adults alike had a wonderful time, reproducing their square, and taking great pride in seeing it put into place, helping to make up the whole picture.
Thank you to EVERYONE who contributed something: to those who painted squares, to the PTA for sponsoring it, to parents and to Homebase who donated materials, and to John Dyer for his generous support and the inspiring video that he made for the children, which was shown in assembly.
Well done everyone – we did it together!!
And thank you especially to the artist, John Dyer.
John says "I grew up in a house in Holywell Bay that was always full of painting, photography and creativity and now I find myself in a house full of painting, ceramics, design and music which is wonderful."
John (born 1968) is one of Britain’s leading and best known contemporary painters, known for his post-modern, colourful landscapes. His work is collected internationally, and his paintings have been the subject of popular TV programmes and a wide range of merchandise. He says:
“Imagine if all the colour, if all the shapes, if all the emotion, if all the fun, if all the joy and if all the love you feel could be captured for a moment to remember for all time. This is the power of a painting.”
